A funeral service for Vernon G. Hollingsworth of Spicewood, Texas, is 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at the Spicewood Church of Christ. The family will receive friends during visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Holloway Cemetery.

Mr. Hollingsworth passed away Jan. 19, 2014. He was 97 years old.

Vernon was a veteran of World War II, serving as a master sergeant and a bomb sight specialist and a bombardier aboard B17s. After returning home, he worked as the postmaster in Spicewood. He also was a teacher for 32 years in Killeen and a store owner, but only to support his love of ranching, which he did full time upon his retirement in Travis Peak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho Edwin Hollingsworth and Beulah Christine Lewis Hollingsworth, and wife, Marjorie Jean Shepard Hollingsworth.

Vernon is survived by his daughters, Janice McGrew and husband Craig and Saundra Howard and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Sherry Rime and husband Reid, James Allison and wife Crystal, Robyn Johnson, Robert Allison and wife Julie, Susan Short and Holley Eguileor and husband Manny; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
