Murl G. Story was called home to be with our heavenly Father on Jan. 17, 2014.

He was born in Floyd, Ark., on July 5, 1928, to Carlton and Vechy Story. He left home at an early age and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict with the Navy on the USS Belletrix.

He married the love of his life, Mildred Trice, on May 15, 1948. After the war, they settled in Houston, where Murl enjoyed a long career in sales with Cargills.

In 1988, he and Mildred retired to their beloved lake home on Lake Buchanan. During his retirement years, he worked with the Burnet County EMS as a volunteer.

Murl and Mildred were people of intense faith and generosity. They gave of their time, contributed to their church homes and were always available to help friends in need.

Mildred sadly preceded him in death in 1996. Murl enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting and playing dominos with friends at the Kingsland Senior Center and later with friends at his Marble Falls residence.

Murl is survived by his sons, Rick Story and wife Cindy and Jeff Story and wife Terri, all of Houston; granddaughters, Kasi Story of Zachary, La., and Brittany Stewart of Houston; and great-grandson, Dallas Mulleur.

He also is survived by his brother Hasten Story of Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad leaves us with wonderful memories and will be greatly missed by his sons and numerous friends at Kingsland Church of Christ.

His family would like to thank the staff at 800 Claremont, The Oaks at Burnet and Denise and Pam with Texas Home Health Hospice.

A funeral service was Jan. 20 with Joe Winnett officiating. Interment followed at Lakeland Memorial Cemetery with the Highland Lakes Honor Guard providing honors.

Arrangements by Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444. Friends may visit edgarfh.com to express condolences to the family.
