MARBLE FALLS — When a group of award-winning female musicians from Texas gather, you know it’s going to be a good time, but, in the case of the Rose of Texas Fair, it’s also for a good cause.
“This is something all the women involved in really believe is important,” said Penny Ney, a local musician and part of the lineup. The Rose of Texas Fair features eight performers all taking the stage Dec. 8 starting at 3 p.m. at the Uptown Marble Theater, 218 Main St.
The show benefits the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center and the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center. Both organizations offer support to victims of abuse and neglect.[box]IF YOU GO

“When I was growing up in Michigan, there wasn’t a place like this for my mom or us to turn to for help,” Ney said. She explained she endured a childhood that included abuse, so, when the opportunity came to help out the two centers, Ney couldn’t pass it up.
“It really plucks at my heartstring what they do at the family crisis center and the advocacy center,” Ney said.
The Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center provides 24-hour sheltering services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. It serves Burnet, Blanco, Lampasas and Llano counties. Along with the shelter, the center offers other things such as emergency food and clothing, counseling services, legal advocacy, medical accompaniment and other referral services.
“It really offers generational healing,” Ney said. “They provide such great follow-up services that it really makes a difference in people’s — especially children’s — lives.”
The Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center provides a safe place for children who are victims of a violent crime or witnessed one. A forensic interviewer talks to children in a safe, secure environment. The session is videotaped and distributed to law enforcement authorities so the youth doesn’t have to endure numerous interviews.
The children’s advocacy center also provides counseling for the child and non-offending family members.
Both centers provide their services free of charge.
As for the Rose of Texas Fair, Ney said each performer is donating her time for the event so all the proceeds go to the two worthy programs.
“There’s so much healing and hope provided by those two organizations, we just want to make sure they’re always there,” Ney said.
The lineup includes Ney, Annie Anton, Barbara Malteze, Brigitte London, Emily Herring, Jean Synodinos, Leeann Atherton and Meagan Tubb.
“These are some incredibly talented women,” Ney said. “It’s going to be a remarkable show.”
