MARBLE FALLS — The Llano High School volleyball team capped off its first full week of practice with a scrimmage against Marble Falls and Austin Hyde Park on Aug. 9.
The Lady Jackets, who reached the second round of the playoffs last season, showed flashes of what made the squad so good, and new head coach John Black noticed.
His biggest observation, though, was that it wasn’t consistent enough.
“The effort was good,” he said. “There are some things we need to work on in practice, mistakes we had that are correctable. I’m pleased with the performance.”
Black liked the passing from the defensive specialists and the way the setters were distributing the ball to the hitters. It just took a while for the players to feel comfortable, he said.
“At the beginning, they were nervous,” he said. “They were really, really tight. They had to relax. This is a scrimmage. Mistakes are going to happen. You can’t let them affect you, you have to let them go.”
The Lady Jackets open the 2013 season at 3 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Kerrville Tivy, 3250 Loop 534 in Kerrville.
