BURNET — It’s amazing what 610 people can do, and the children and staff of the Seton Kids Care-a-Van are thankful.

The annual Emory Bellard-Spike Dykes Kids Care-a-Van Tailgate Party and Golf Tournament fundraiser netted more than $195,000, which is average for the event, said Becky Fox, Seton Fund director of development.

“Volunteers, donors, sponsors and all the businesses donated items,” she said. “We have so much we’re grateful for and blessed. The Care-a-Van rolls on to help the Highland Lakes community.”

Eleven live auction items and more than 200 silent auction items were available for purchase. Dykes, the legendary former head football coach of Texas Tech University, arrived at the tailgate party with three items for purchase: a signed football by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, a football signed by University of Texas football coaches Darrell K. Royal and Mack Brown; and a helmet signed by former University of Texas quarterback Vince Young.

The golf tournament had two flights that drew 216 golfers.
