OBITUARY: Alvia Lea Theilig, 89, a Bertram native, dies April 7, 2013
Alvia Lea Theilig, 89, died April 7, 2013. She was a 46-year resident of Houston and later moved to Burnet in 1994 and Fort Worth in 2008. She was born in Bertram to Alvin and Carmen (Baker) Montgomery on April 21, 1923.
She grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from Port Arthur High School, where she was chosen best all-around girl in academics and sports. She married Harold P. Theilig in 1944.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. during and after World War II. From 1961 to 1968, she owned and operated the millinery store VirLea’s and the craft store LeaAnn’s in Houston and became an accomplished folk-art painter. She was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Houston before moving to Burnet, where she joined First Christian Church.
Alvia Lea is survived by her beloved son, Paul Theilig and his partner Barbara Hahn of Marble Falls; daughter Eilene Theilig of Fort Worth; step-grandson, Michael Milian of Orlando, Fla.; sister Barbara Booker of Beaumont; sisters-in-law, Levoy Montgomery of Houston and Rosalia Theilig of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and brother-in-law Edward McElroy of Burnet. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold P. Theilig in November 1993; sister Ann McElroy; brother Eldwin Montgomery; and brother-in-law James Booker.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. April 10 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. A funeral service is 11 a.m. April 11 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dawn Rosignol officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet.
