MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School football staff has some new faces, said athletic director and head football coach Todd Dodge.

Lee Munn was hired as the new linebackers coach, which allows new defensive coordinator Tony Salazar to coach the safeties.

Munn was a graduate assistant at Mary-Hardin Baylor and, as a player at the university, was coached by Salazar coached.

“He’s very entrenched on what Tony wants to do on the defensive side of the ball,” Dodge said. “So he’s a young guy, a lot of enthusiasm, excitement.”

Chase Hargis, who was already on the staff since the summer, will coach the cornerbacks, and Ricky Sparks will continue to coach the defensive linemen.

Dodge said Salazar feels the most comfortable coaching the secondary.

“And I personally found out that coordinating from the back end up is a good thing,” he said. “That’s why I went out and let (Salazar) hire someone that’s been with him to coach the linebackers, and that’s important because he, right now, not only is he coaching players, but he’s coaching coaches.”

In addition, Dodge said Salazar and offensive coordinator Bill Poe have a great relationship.

“I sought someone who’s one of the top defensive coordinators in the state of Texas,” he said. “Tony is a great blend of knowledge and youth and excitement. He’s a high-energy guy. In coaching, we call them kid magnets.”

The athletic director said he plans to make two more hires.

He is in the process of finding a new offensive line coach, which will allow Kyle Futrell to assist with special teams and help special teams coach Shelton Gandy. Assistant offensive line coach Jake Smith will stay in his current position.

Dodge also plans to fill a vacated spot that was created when Trey Young took over as the head girls soccer coach last summer. That person will be more of a freshman coach, Dodge said, but won’t be here for spring football, which starts in May.

“I’m really excited about our staff as it continues to take shape,” Dodge said. “It takes a year or two to mold it the way you want it. I’m really excited about the different strengths we have, excited about the camaraderie that’s going on. If you’re going to build a team, a coaching staff has to model teamwork for your players. That’s something that, as we continue to go forward, is important to me.”
