OBITUARY: Leta Havard, 91, of Silver Creek enjoyed fishing, boating on Lake Buchanan

Leta M. Barton Havard went home to Heaven on the morning of Feb. 14, 2013. She had just celebrated her 91st birthday. She was born Feb. 11, 1922, near Boise City, Okla., in Cimarron County to John Hugh and Flossie May Taylor Barton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack Barton, Harlin Barton, Obie Barton, Larry Barton and Gordon Barton; sister, Mary Beaver; grandson Joe Michael; beloved son-in-law Richard Owens; and dear friend Larry Creekmur.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah R. Rochester and husband Johnny and Virginia Owens, all of Burnet; sons, Van H. Michael and wife Mary and Robert L. Michael and wife Dolores, all of Burnet; and step-son, A.J. Michael of Burnet. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
Leta was a member of Faith Chapel Pentecostal Church of God in Lockhart for 40 years and attended East Lake Baptist Church in Silver Creek after moving to the Burnet area.
During her early years, Leta grew up on a farm in the Oklahoma Panhandle. She married Oscar Michael, and they had a farm near Pritchett, Colo., where she taught in a one-room school for several years and raised her three children: Van, Robert and Virginia.
She divorced and moved to Boise City, Okla., where she met and married Sylvan Laney. They moved to Lockhart in 1953 and had one daughter, Deborah. Mr. Laney died, and Leta married W.H. Havard. They later divorced.
Leta worked for 30 years at Anderwartha Plumbing in Lockhart as a bookkeeper and an office manager. She retired from Anderwartha and, in 1993, moved to Silver Creek, where she continued to reside until her death.
Leta enjoyed fishing on Lake Buchanan and spent many hours boating and fishing with her friend, Larry Creekmur.
A service was Feb. 16 at Edgar Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222, with the Rev. Ronald Bowden officiating. Burial followed at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Park Road 4 in Burnet County.
