BROCK — The Burnet High School girls basketball season ended with a 60-52 loss to Wichita Falls Hirschi on Feb. 15 in the area round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Lady Dawgs head coach Mike Cavender summed up the defeat in two words: missed opportunities.
“We had so many opportunities in the first half for a 10- to 15-point lead,” he said. “We had missed free throws, we’re not blocking out. We made a lot of nervous playoff mistakes, and the further you go, you can’t make those mistakes. You have to take advantage of everything they offer.”
The Lady Dawgs took a 6-2 lead three minutes into the game that forced Hirschi into a timeout. From there, the Lady Huskies matched Burnet point for point until Hirschi went on a 9-3 run in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
Burnet answered midway through the second quarter with a 9-3 run of its own, but Hirschi ended the half on another 9-3 run.
“We could never get over the hump and take the lead in the third quarter,” Cavender said. “I thought we were going to make the run. We had missed opportunities attacking the basket.”
What helped the Lady Huskies was their outside shooting. They hit at least seven 3-pointers during the contest that propelled them to victory. Junior guard Auhdesc Brandon hit six of them.

Entire Agreement This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements. Modifications must be in writing. By submitting content, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.
