Bullpups’ defense leads to win

“The boys played great defense all night long,” coach Lance Matt said. “They learned a new defense and offense during the week and by the second quarter were running them very well to put the clamps down on an overmatched Texan team.”

The Bullpups kept Wimberley scoreless in the second period for a 20-8 halftime lead and outscored the Texans, 16-6, in the last two quarters.

Brian Bullock led the way with eight points followed by Clayton Baumgart with seven. Joe Parker added six, while Caleb Chapa and Cable Anders  dropped in four. Nick Ybarra, Jerome Robertson and Caleb Cardoza scored two, and  Tommy Cromer added one.

Matt said rebounding was better.

Parker, Cardoza, Lane Goar and Robertson led the rebounding effort, while Ybarra, Bullock and Baumgart had several steals.

“The boys have shown tremendous improvement since the season started and will be tough to handle throughout the rest of district,” the coach said. “The boys refuse to be out-hustled.”

The Bullpups are 3-0 in district and 4-2 overall.

The team will welcome Ingram Tom Moore Thursday before hosting a B team tournament.

“These kids continue to amaze and impress me with their hard work and determination,” Matt said. “They are truly a joy to coach.”
