MARBLE FALLS — Two local musicians are teaming up to fight blindness with benefit performances and storytelling at the Uptown Marble Theater.

Prevent Blindness Texas presents “Vision of the Songwriter,” featuring john Arthur martinez and Mike Blakely 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the theater, 218 Main St.

“Our hope is that as john Arthur martinez and Mike Blakely share their music, a vision will be cast to which our collective efforts can and will change the world,” said spokeswoman Vicki Weston. “The gift of sight can forever change a life.”

The performance benefits Prevent Blindness Texas, which has a mission to end blindness and preserve sight for all Texans through free sight-saving programs.

The programs are made possible through the agency’s 11 branches across the state, officials said.

The Austin branch serves 20 counties in Central Texas and the organization assists more than 150,000 Texans each year.

The performances promise a unique and relaxing afternoon of storytelling and music directly from the songwriters themselves, sponsors said.

They will talk about their music, where the inspiration comes from and reveal the private stories behind their most popular songs.

In addition, there will be refreshments and a live auction by auctioneer Glenn Love Jr. of Live Oak Realty and Auction in Goldthwaite.

Tickets are $25 a seat, or $200 for a stage-front table for four.
