Marble Falls is moving closer to construction on major improvements to Westside Park after formally accepting a $750,000 state grant awarded earlier this year.

The grant agreement with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was approved by Marble Falls City Council during its Tuesday, Oct. 6 meeting. TPWD awarded Marble Falls the $750,000 Local Park Grant in January, but approval of the agreement was required to formally accept the funding and proceed under the grant’s terms.

The approval moves a host of projects closer to construction. Staff and the project team are finalizing documents before the project is put out for bids.

Planned improvements to the 13-acre park at Second Street and Avenue Q include a new inclusive playground, renovation of the existing restroom facility, parking lot upgrades, a cover over the existing basketball court and improved trail connections.

Marble Falls has committed $2 million to the project, including $1.5 million in debt issued in 2024 and another $500,000 allocated in 2025. The Marble Falls Inclusive Playground Group also has raised more than $600,000 in private funding for the playground.

Combined funding already exceeds the local match required for the TPWD grant, according to council documents, meaning no additional debt is needed to meet the requirement.

The inclusive playground, dubbed Wyatt’s Clubhouse, is planned as a centerpiece of the improvements and will be designed for children of all ability levels. The Marble Falls Inclusive Playground Group has advocated and raised money for the project since 2022.
