A 40-year-old man from East Lake was found dead, and an unnamed woman is in critical condition following a watercraft collision on Lake Buchanan on the evening of Monday, Sept. 7.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials told DailyTrib on Tuesday, Sept. 8, that Texas Game Wardens personnel responded to a “vessel collision at Garrett Island on Lake Buchanan,” at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Monday.

On the scene, wardens found the vessel’s operator, Dillard Drake, dead.

An unnamed woman who had been onboard the vessel was found in critical condition and was transported to a nearby hospital via helicopter. TPWD officials added that, as of 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, the woman was “expected to survive according to medical personnel.”

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Texas Game Wardens. No further information was available at the time of this article’s publication.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Drake’s family and friends during this difficult time,” reads a TPWD statement sent to DailyTrib. “We appreciate the assistance of our local volunteer fire departments, Lower Colorado River Authority rangers, Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, and Star Flight.”
