A 59-year-old woman was found dead on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. A cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected.

According to statements from investigating agencies, the body of the East Texas woman was found at around 3 p.m. on Thursday along a trail on the west side of the park. The popular hiking and camping destination lies near the borders of Llano and Gillespie counties.

“The investigation is ongoing and her cause of death is unknown at this time,” reads a statement to DailyTrib from the lead investigating agency, Texas State Park Police.

The Llano County Sheriff’s Office, which assisted in the investigation, shared that Llano County Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Deb Edwards was called to the scene and confirmed the death. An autopsy was ordered to assist in determining the cause and manner of death.

“The Llano County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” reads a statement from the agency issued to DailyTrib.

This will be at least the second visitor who has been found dead at Enchanted Rock in 2026, with an elderly hiker who had gone missing at the park found deceased on May 20
