Gene Blitch, 91, of Meadowlakes died Sept. 19, 2010. Born Aug. 3, 1919, in DeLeon, he was the son of Joseph and Bertha (Irvin) Blitch.

He was an Air Force major and in World War II flew “The Hump,” the name given by allied pilots to the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountains on the India-to-China military transport route.

He was a 1950 graduate of Texas A&M University, earning a bachelor of science degree and his masters degree in horticulture. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.

He was a past master of Acacia Masonic Lodge in Lawrence, Kan.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive.

Survivors include his wife Bess Blitch of Meadowlakes; son Michael Blitch of Burnet; daughter Maribeth Impson of Dayton, Tenn.; sister Billye Cook of Marble Falls; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls with the Rev. Ralph Mann officiating.
