Ray Hester, 66, died Oct. 1, 2010.

He was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Round Rock to J.P. Hester and Edna (Behrens) Hester.

He spent his working years as a union carpenter and millwright at Local 1266 in Austin. After 35 years, he retired to Kingsland to fish and relax.  He enjoyed his retirement by building martin houses, gardening and doing odd jobs for anyone in need.

He could always be seen with his best friend Penny riding beside him in a truck or following him in his footsteps.

Survivors include his wife Tammy; sons Ray Clements Hester; Robert Warren Hester and James Ray Hester; daughter Julie Christine Hester; brother J.C. Hester of El Cajon, Calif; and many cousins, nieces and a nephew.

There will be no formal services. Ashes will be scattered at a private family gathering.

Memorial contributions may be forwarded to the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department, First United Methodist Church in Burnet or St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock.
