Alma Thompson Howerts, 89, died Oct. 7, 2010.

She was born Feb. 6, 1921, to Columbus and May Bell (Finley) Thompson in Oklahoma.

She was a community volunteer and an accomplished artist. Known as “The First Lady of Organized Art in the Highland Lakes,” she co-founded both the Buchanan Arts and Crafts Gallery and the Bluebonnet Arts and Crafts Trail.

Survivors include her husband Herman; several cousins; five nieces and nephews; friends Dave and Frieda Gresham; and friends Paul and Ann Simon.

Graveside services were Oct. 9 at the Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Arrangements were by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alma Howerts Scholarship Fund at the Buchanan Dam Arts and Crafts Gallery.
