Just over one year after Marble Falls Independent School District voters approved a $172.2 million bond package, work on several projects has rapidly progressed and reached completion in some cases, leading the way for a handful of new projects to begin.
Two of the district’s next bond projects, entailing the construction of a new multi-purposed athletics facility and expansion of the career and technical education programs at Marble Falls High School, could soon begin work.
“The multi-purpose (athletics facility) is a 70-yard indoor turf field that has three lanes of track that will be utilized by our athletics department, by our band, and our PE classes,” MFISD Superintendent Dr. Gasaway said. “CTE is a $15 million addition… that is going to be adding a new welding bay. But, the big program that I’m really excited about is that we’re adding cosmetology.”
Gasaway spoke at a Marble Falls Area Chamber Commerce event on Tuesday, May 5, and explained that a guaranteed maximum price for the multi-purpose facility should be presented to the MFISD Board of Trustees in July. If approved, construction would start soon after. Currently, that project is projected around the $26 million mark.
The CTE expansion will help relieve serious strain that has burdened the agricultural mechanics course for years, as the class often does not have enough welding bays to support its popularity. The brand-new cosmetology course could also begin work as early as September, with plans for the program to be operational by the start of the 2027-28 school year.
“There’s people who cut hair that make more than college graduates, and there’s mechanics who make more than I do,” Dr. Gasaway joked. “There’s good things going on here, and so I’m excited about cosmetology. (Planning) will start in September and will be hopefully ready for the start of the ‘27-’28 school year.”
The district’s foray into a new array of bond projects is a signal of several projects getting well underway and marching to completion. Most recently, the Mustang’s softball field received new turf, a new scoreboard was erected at Mustang Stadium, and work on a new baseball field and facility broke ground at the beginning of May.
