Jerome ‘Jerry’ Anchor Gevik
Jerome “Jerry” Anchor Gevik, 89, of Kingsland died Oct. 22, 2010. He was born to Iver and Marion Einerson Gevik Aug. 19, 1921, in Lesterville, S.D.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was a forward observer for advancing groups in the five campaigns in Europe.
He married George-Anne Klasing.
A heavy-equipment operator most of his life, he also enjoyed working on small engines.
He attended Baptist churches and was a 65-year member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, survivors include children Gregory and wife Betsy Gevik of Hickory, N.C., Ann and husband Gary Hartz of Kingsland, and Robert Gevik of Van Alystin; daughter-in-law Nancy Gevik; stepson Jonathan Miller of Belton, Mo.; sister-in-law Joyce Palazzolo of St. Louis; brother-in-law Lester J. Klasing of DeKalb, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and son Gary.
A visitation is 2-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Putnam Funeral Home & Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008.
A service is 2 p.m. Oct. 27 with burial at a later date at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, Killeen.
