Ralph A. Hagerty
Ralph A. Hagerty, 86, of Meadowlakes died Oct. 20, 2010. He was born Dec. 22, 1923, to Dewey W. Hagerty and Ruth Kauffman Hagerty of the Scott community near Shipshewana, Ind.
He was salutatorian of his high school class and an honor student in the Perdue University Civil Engineering School. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps in World War II and served in the 84th division in Europe.
Later he joined the Army Air Force Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel.
He was employed by Texaco Inc. and spent many years at the Lockport, Ill., refinery. Also, he was the construction manager of a new refinery at Nanticoke, Port Dover, Ontario, Canada. There were shorter assignments at other refineries.
He spent many hours in volunteer work as president of an elementary school board, baseball manager of the Little league and a trustee of a congregational church, all in Lockport.
He was the church construction manager of the new St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and treasurer of the Noon Lions Club in Marble Falls.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carlotta “Jean” Hagerty; sons Ted Hagerty and wife Polly, and Gregory Hagerty and wife Deborah; daughter Jill Penick and husband Michael; grandson Sean Hagerty; and brother Jack and Elaine Hagerty.
He was preceded in death by son Douglas Hagerty.
A private funeral service will be held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Arthur Strickland officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Presbyterian Homes and Services.
