A free emergency preparedness fair aimed at helping Burnet County residents plan for disasters will be held April 18 in Marble Falls.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative, in partnership with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management, will host its second annual Ready as One event 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Marble Falls Middle School, 1511 Pony Drive.

Attendees can learn what to do before, during and after disasters through demonstrations and hands-on activities, including power restoration simulations with PEC lineworkers. State and local organizations will also be on hand to answer questions and provide safety information.

Beth Koennecke, PEC’s external relations representative, said the event gives the cooperative a chance to connect with members and provide information to help keep families and the community safe.

“Last year we partnered with Burnet County for the first time to put on this event. We had a wonderful turnout and community response,” Koennecke told DailyTrib. “This year we hope to touch base with even more families. By thinking ahead, providing connections to important resources, and reminding everyone about the importance of having an emergency plan, we are strengthening our preparedness to manage the next emergency, ready as one.”

The event will also feature free food, children’s activities and additional food for purchase. Attendees can meet PEC’s mascot, enjoy a bounce house, participate in hands-on demonstrations, and visit booths to explore community resources and learn more about emergency preparedness.
