Synopsis
With a Tony Award–winning book by James Lapine and a spellbinding score by Stephen Sondheim, “Into the Woods” weaves together beloved storybook characters into a rich, layered musical that is both timeless and strikingly relevant. By blending humor, heart, and hauntingly beautiful music, this modern classic explores what really happens after “happily ever after.”
The story follows a baker and his wife who long for a child, Cinderella, who dreams of attending the King’s Festival, and Jack, who hopes his cow will give milk. When the baker and his wife discover they are cursed by a witch, they embark on a quest to break the spell. Along the way, they cross paths with Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and other familiar fairy tale figures, each pursuing a wish of their own.
But, in “Into the Woods,” wishes come with consequences. Though dreams are granted, the aftermath reveals deeper truths about responsibility, community, loss, and what it truly means to grow up.
Magical, thought-provoking, and richly human, “Into the Woods” invites audiences of all ages to journey beyond the fairy tale and discover what lies within the woods.
