Dorothy “Dotty” Dale Pruett Hammond, 90, died Nov. 1, 2010, after battling a severe illness. She was born March 27, 1920.

She was crowned Miss Rockdale 1938. She initially worked for Southwestern  Insurance Information Service and then the Texas Independent Insurance Adjustors Association as an executive secretary for many years.

She was known by many names — mother, “Granny,” friend, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and sister-in-law. She had a quick sense of humor, enthusiasm and the kindness God only bestows upon a sweet soul.

She loved her church family and her steadfast friends at the Rockdale Library, where she worked as a volunteer.

Survivors include daughters Patricia Dale Williams of Houston, and Annie Stuard and Donna Jo Lane of Austin; grandchildren Stephen Darby Williams and wife Ester, Brian Kincaid Williams and Justin Cole Lane, all of Houston, Karen Elizabeth Fields and husband Meyer of Rosharon, Charles Storm Stuard and wife Nicole, and Wendi Ann Roycroft and husband Kenny, all of Manor; great-grandchildren Darby Nicole Fields, Garrett Matthew Fields, Collin Roycroft, Mary Sims, Abigail Roycroft and Annabelle Roycroft; brother-in-law Donald V. Hammond; sister-in-law Peggy Fowler Hammond, both of Burnet; and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fielding Darby Hammond of Burnet; parents Horace and Blanche Pruett of Rockdale; brother Guy Pruett of Rockdale; and brother-in-law Thomas M. Hammond of Burnet.

A memorial service was Nov. 6 at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockdale. A graveside service was Nov. 14 at Oddfellow Cemetery in Burnet.
