Pete ‘R.T.’ McDaniel
Pete “R.T.” McDaniel, 88, died Jan. 13, 2011. Born on a ranch in King County to Roy and Thelma McDaniel Feb. 2, 1922, he grew up living and working on ranches in Texas and New Mexico including the famed Pitchfork, Swenson and Matodor.
As part of the “Greatest Generation,” he lived the American Dream with determination, gusto, a great sense of humor and belief in hard work.
Enduring the Great Depression and serving in World War II, including the Burma Road, he moved on to a career in the oil fields. He worked for Hughes Tool Co. and then formed a lifelong friendship and working partnership with Pat and Mary Beth Ramsay in several businesses including MR Oil Co. in Monahans.
Georgia Mapes McDaniel has been the “wind beneath his wings” for almost 64 years. They lived in many West Texas communities but settled in Monahans, where they became involved with First Methodist Church.
After he retired, they moved to Horseshoe Bay.
His other affiliations included the Masons (32nd degree), The Confederate Air Force, Rotary and the Chuck Wagon Gang.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters Cynthia and spouse Bryan Maedgen, Kathie and spouse Kent Bowermon, and Stevie and spouse Randy Pipkin; sisters Dell Campbell and Pat Addison, both of Abilene; grandchildren Robin Dickey, Courtney and spouse Scott Burlison, Meredith Dickey, Keely and spouse Joe Dunn, Kade and spouse Julie Bowermon, Chad and spouse Tenee Pipkin, and Christin and spouse Daniel Gray; great-grandchildren Dylan, Taylor, Mary Ella, Kole, Addy, Drew, Aubrey, Molly, Georgia and Aspen; and nieces and nephews.
A service was Jan. 15 at The Church at Horseshoe Bay in Horseshoe Bay.
