Nieves ‘Neal’ Castro
Nieves “Neal” Castro, 78, of Bertram died March 29, 2011.
Family and friends were of utmost importance to him. He cherished every moment he spent with them. A simple man, he left his family with gifts of wisdom, integrity, guidance, laughter, a strong work ethic, giving and support. He would do anything to help a family member or a friend in need.
He loved all sports, but his passion was baseball. He enjoyed every minute that he spent playing, managing, coaching, umpiring and viewing the game on television or from the stands.
The guidance and support he provided to many ball players is cherished. He truly will be missed but never forgotten.
Survivors include sisters Guadalupe Lopez, Susie Pina and husband Gabriel Pina Sr., Margret Ibarra and husband George; brother Johnny Castro; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father Hilario Castro; his mother Brigida Hernandez Castro; brother Casimiro “Casey” Castro; and sister Patricia Felan.
A visitation and rosary were April 2 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
Graveside services were April 3 at the Liberty Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Anthony Alphonse officiating. Those named as pallbearers included John Tovar, Garry Ibarra, Jim Felan, Rusty Felan, Robert Castro, Gregg Parker, Kyle Pina and Albert Pina.
The family would like to thank the many friends who came by to visit him at the nursing home over the years. Also, a very special thanks to the Bertram nursing home staff who became part of his extended family.
