Carmen Aileen Williams
Carmen Aileen Williams, 87, of Burnet died Aug. 22, 2010.
She was born in Corsicana Aug. 17, 1923, to Frank and Frances Snorgrass Chase.
She was very civic and public-minded. In Huntington Beach, Calif., she served as a neighborhood chairwoman and Girl Scout leader for 248 Brownie and Girl Scout troops, and a secretary and volunteer for the March of Dimes.
In Burnet she volunteered as a Pink Lady for Sheppard Memorial Hospital, moving later to the Seton Highland Lakes Hospital and continued to volunteer until ill health prevented her from doing more. She logged more than 800 hours by her retirement.
She was a member of the Burnet Veterans of Foreign Wars lodge No. 6974 and the Confederate Air Force-San Marcos Wing, and served on the board of Continental Telephone-Burnet County.
She was chairwoman for the Burnet County Republican Party 1970-1979.
She was a loving mother, granny and GeeGee. She spent time cooking with family and teaching her loved ones values and traditions. She was a lady who had actually been around the world “twice."
She was an avid reader of history and adventure, but had a few of her own to tell.
She was a football fan supporting the Cowboys, the Texas A&M University Aggies and the Burnet High School Bulldogs,
Her family has said of her, “Granny taught her family the love and appreciation of all music and dance. Being in the band herself as a drummer, she had a good beat! Her faith was steadfast and her love of family was even stronger, being most proud of her family’s past, present and future."
Survivors include daughter Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Williams; Merkle Q. Williams Jr., Robert A. Williams and Gregory D. Williams; grandchildren Joseph A. Williams and his wife Amanda L., Amy Ann Williams Sethman and her husband Ronnie G. Sethman; and great-grandchildren Jordan Lee Williams, Savannah Mae Sethman, Emily Nicole Sethman, Rebecca Lynn Sethman, Jade Alixia Williams and Ethan Travis Sethman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Frances Lane Schwarzer; brother John Robert Lane; and her constant companion and protector, her loving dog Bebe.
A visitation is 6-8 p.m. Aug. 25 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
Services are 10 a.m. Aug. 26 at the First United Methodist Church of Burnet, 909 Vanderveer St., with the Rev. Ellen Ely Hibler officiating.
Interment will follow at Post Mountain Cemetery in Burnet.
Pallbearers include Lamar Schooley, Greg Williams, Mike Smith, Rick Neeley, Monte Brunson and Scott Hughes.
