Joe Rex Tatum

Joe Rex Tatum, 81, died May 14, 2011. He was born in Clyde on Sept. 29, 1929, to Claude and Nan Tatum.
He followed his older brother Jack into the Navy, serving on the light cruiser USS Pasadena from 1946 to 1949, the destroyer USS Frank E. Evans from 1951 to 1952, and finally on the destroyer USS Wren from 1961 to 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In the civilian world, he was an electrician, maintaining and building high power lines all over Texas. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children Mike and Joy of Austin, and Melanie of Lubbock; grandsons Keith of Montclair, Va., and Scott of Austin; and great-grandchildren Garrett, Tillie and Frannie of Montclair, Va.

A graveside service is 2 p.m. May 17 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet with the Rev. Darrell Debo officiating.
