Clint “Chip” A. Low

Clint “Chip” A. Low, 89, of Llano and formerly of Fort Stockton died May 21, 2011, in Llano. He was born in Brownwood on Nov. 26, 1921, to Clint A. Low and Monterry Brown.
He married Betty Myrick on May 17, 1947, in the city of May.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the 82nd Airborne in World War II. He served in the Honor Guard for President Dwight Eisenhower. After the war, he received his master’s degree from Texas Tech University. He taught math and science in May, Newhome, Gregor-Portland, Burnet, Bronte and Fort Stockton. He also coached a state championship golf team in Bronte. While in Llano, he taught math, science and coached the golf team.
After his retirement, he became the Veteran’s Service officer for Llano County and helped start the shuttle HOP buses in Llano County. He also was credited for coaching pro golfer Blaine McAlister. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering in his barn. His love of nature, golf and the outdoors was satisfied by living in Llano. He was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his daughter Lana Elms and husband Donald of San Angelo; granddaughter Kresta Elms Russell and husband John of San Angelo; and longtime companion Vera Ellis of Llano.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Myrick) Low on Oct. 23, 1989; parents; and sister Marie (Low) Peel.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. May 23 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300.
A graveside service is May 24 at Llano City Cemetery with Chaplain Richard Vandeventer officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highland Lakes Honor Guard.
