Mary Alice Cain Christensen, 87, of Oak Ridge Estates died May 29, 2011. She was born in Fluvanna on Sept. 6, 1923, but spent most of her life in Big Spring, where she met and later married Joseph Lesley Christensen on Sept. 28, 1946.

She loved children and spent many years teaching in the public school systems of Big Spring and Canuta. The last three years were spent living and enjoying the people in Oak Ridge Estates.

One of her greatest joys was the time she spent with family, especially her great-granddaughter. She also loved playing games, painting, genealogy and spending time with friends.

Survivors include her daughter Lynn McDowell and husband Jerry; grandchildren Jerin McDowell and wife Kristin and Jalyn McDowell; great-granddaughter Jordan McDowell, all of Grand Prairie; brother A.J. Cain of Midland; sisters Billie Carr of Big Spring and Betty Lively of Odessa; and aunt Nadine Hodnett of Big Spring.

She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew J. and Alice (Haynes) Cain; and her husband.

A service will be in Midland with burial at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity, the Rescue Mission of El Paso, 1949 W. Paisano, El Paso, TX 79922, or to a charity of choice.

The family thanks the compassionate staff at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital of Burnet and Round Rock, the Seton Highland Lakes Hospice and all the wonderful, helpful friends in Oak Ridge.
