Raymond Richard Nix, 71, of Oak Ridge Estates in Horseshoe Bay, died May 21, 2010.

He was born to Budd and Goldie Nix March 19, 1939, in Minocqua, Wis. In high school he played basketball and was in the drama club. He joined the Air Force and served in England, where he met his first wife with whom he had three sons.

After the service, he returned to Wisconsin, worked as a graphics engineer and met Mary Ann Reimer. On their first date, he told her he was going to marry her and for the next 41 years they built a life together. They moved to Texas and raised their daughter in Marble Falls, where he became well known as the guy in the red truck who could fix just about anything.

If he didn’t know how, he’d figure it out, and half the time he’d do it for free.

He always said if he ever won the lottery, he’d keep doing exactly what he was doing, but stop billing altogether. He had a huge heart and was proud to be a Mason at Blazing Star Lodge in Marble Falls and an active member of local AA groups for 28 years.

Day or night, if his phone rang and someone needed support, he’d get a cigarette and a cup of coffee and talk until the person on the other end of the line was strong again.

He also was "PopPop" to his grandchildren, who loved to go with him on tractor rides and to work with their miniature toolboxes that were just like his.

Survivors include his wife Mary; their daughter Kimberly Lawrence and her husband Jeremy; and their children Haedan, Hannah, Mavah and Ella; his son, Craig Nix and his wife Sarah; and their children Taylor, Harmony and Elijah; his son Kelly’s children Kelly, Sean and Kyle; and brother Ken.

He was preceded in death by his sons Paul and Kelly.

His family wishes to express their gratitude to the hospice team that helped his wife care for him during the last months of his life.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. May 29  at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1803 RR 1431 West in Marble Falls.
