Lann Gaylon Brizendine, 87, of Bertram passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012. He was born Sept. 19, 1925, to John Milton and Lottie Mae (Womack) Brizendine in the Gabriel Mills area of Williamson County.

Gaylon is survived by wife Corrine, son Jamie Brizendine and his wife Yvonne and daughter Ann Brock and her husband Terry. Also surviving are grandchildren Vonnie Branch and husband Bryan, Lann Brizendine and Laurie, Aaron and Hannah Brock; great-grandchildren Cayden Branch and Kyler and Keira Brock; sisters Charlotte Barham and Wanda Boswell and husband Sonny; and sisters-in-law Janie Brizendine and Minnie Bell Brizendine.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-,other Nellie (Klose) Brizendine as well as brothers Blanton, Marvin and John E. and sister Verna Katherine.

At the age of 19, Gaylon was drafted into the Army and served during the liberation of the Philippines and on Luzon and later in Japan.

On Dec. 12, 1946, he married the love of his life, Corrine Headrick, to whom he was wed for almost 66years. They had two children, Jamie and Ann.

Gaylon had a love for the land. He and Corrine farmed and ranched from the time they married until they moved to town in 1960. He worked as a welder for Garrett Wilkinson and as a surveyor for the Pedernales Electric Cooperative. He started ranching again for E.F. “Buster” and Carroll Allen and worked several years for them. He finished out his life ranching for himself, which he did up to the last few months of his life.

He was a man of many talents. He built his own house and helped build his children’s and brother’s homes.

Gaylon was a longtime member of Bertram Cumberland Presbyterian Church and during this time served as elder, secretary and on various committees. He was also involved with and instrumental in work on additions to the church and manse. Gaylon loved his God, his church and his church family.

Gaylon spent many hours and fun times at the baseball fields where he was known as “Papa” to his grandkids and all their teammates. It was a very joyful time of his life.

Gaylon was a loving and amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was there for us, he was fun, he was caring, he set a good example, he took us places, he pushed us to do our best, he disciplined us when we did wrong and he taught us how to have faith and how to make a difference. We miss him already; our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Visitation was Nov. 18 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East, (512) 756-2222. A funeral service was Nov. 19 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bertram with the Revs. Daryl Johnson and Dr. Thomas Sweet officiating.
