Granite Shoals is seeking up to $750,000 in state grant funding for street repairs, drainage improvements, and water and sewer projects.

The Granite Shoals City Council approved a resolution Tuesday, Oct. 27, authorizing the city to apply for funding through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Development Block Grant program. The program supports infrastructure and community improvements that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income residents.

If awarded, at least 51% of the grant funds must be used for high-priority infrastructure projects, such as street repairs and drainage, water and sewer improvements. This requirement governs how the funds are spent and does not require a local financial match.

“We are applying to address infrastructure needs that are beyond our local resources,” City Manager Sarah Novo said during the meeting.

The specific projects, costs, and service areas would be determined during the application process. The council’s approval allows the city to submit an application but does not guarantee funding. If awarded, the grant may not cover all project costs, and the city would be responsible for any remaining expenses.
