Marble Falls is enhancing the Walkway of Lights with new holiday displays ahead of the 2026 season, but the ice rink will not return this year.

During its Aug. 4 meeting, Marble Falls City Council approved a $450,162.23 purchase agreement with Mosca Design for new holiday sculptures and display elements. The project will be initially funded by the Marble Falls Economic Development Corp., with the city repaying the EDC over time to avoid additional debt.

The purchase is the latest step the city has taken on the path of managing the Walkway of Lights after taking over responsibility for the annual event earlier this year from the Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce. The holiday tradition has been in place for 36 years.

The new additions to the Walkway will include 12 themed areas featuring multiple large sculptures and interactive photo opportunities designed to complement the existing holiday decorations.

The ice rink at Lakeside Park will not make an appearance this season.

“We are focusing on the lights this year,” Mayor Pro Tem Craig Magerkurth told DailyTrib. “That area that had the rink it will have a new LED light feature.”

Magerkurth said the city is still navigating operations of the event, as this will be the first year the entire experience is under the Marble Falls Parks and Recreation Department, rather than the Marble Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We’ve taken it over, but the chamber is still giving their expertise,” he said. “It will be a gradual handoff.”
