The Highland Lakes Equality Center will host its sixth annual Marble Falls Pride Fest on Saturday, June 13, at Johnson Park. 

The Highland Lakes Equality Center will host its sixth annual Marble Falls Pride Fest on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J South. The free, communitywide event will feature live music, local vendors, a kid zone, performances and other entertainment.

“Pride Fest offers a 100 percent affirming environment where everyone is free to be themselves,” according to the Facebook event page.

The Highland Lakes Equality Center held its first major event, Equality Fest, in 2021 in honor of Pride Month, which is observed in June and celebrates inclusivity and equality for LGBTQIA+ people.

Facts about Pride Month and LGBTQIA+

  • The U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide on June 26, 2015.
  • The first Pride flag was designed by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 and first flew on Gay Pride Day in San Francisco on June 25, 1978.
  • There are 17 recognized Pride flags representing different identities within the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • The Stonewall uprising was a critical point for the movement, and began June 28, 1969, after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City considered a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people. The raid sparked six days of protests and clashes with police. The Stonewall Inn remains open today and is a national monument.
