A statewide emergency alert system drill will be held from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, in a joint effort between the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

According to a Burnet County Facebook post about the drill, TDEM hopes to raise its emergency alert abilities throughout the state, and will conduct the test to evaluate the current standards and effectiveness of local warning systems for disasters.

The post reads that community members may hear sirens, receive text messages, or be contacted through other emergency warning systems throughout the test.

Officials reassured the community that no action will be required during the drill, but asked residents to check that their contact information is up to date and to communicate personal emergency plans.

Once the drill is completed, BCEM and TDEM will collaborate, along with other local emergency management partners throughout Texas, to plan future improvements to public alert systems.
