Granite Shoals city leaders declined to hire an outside firm to investigate complaints involving a “city manager pay increase,” fire department equipment purchases, and travel expense reimbursements, instead referring the matter to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office for review during a special meeting of the Granite Shoals City Council on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
“The city is not pursuing the engagement of an outside independent contractor for investigation at this time,” Mayor Ron Munos said in a public statement.
The complaints were brought to the city’s attention on Dec. 11, according to Munos, by an unidentified city employee. The city manager, Sarah Novo, and assistant city manager, Tim Campbell, forwarded the concerns, along with supporting documentation, to Burnet County Sheriff’s Office for an independent review.
The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to DailyTrib that it could investigate the matter, but specific details of the investigation were not disclosed.
City officials declined to provide additional details, citing that the situation involves personnel matters and an ongoing review process.
“The city will not comment further at this time,” Munos said during the meeting, adding that the report from Burnet County will be shared with the public once it becomes available.

These small towns sure have become corrupt. If something wasn’t done wrong. Why fear an outside investigation? The voters have no real power or say in what matters anymore. That is why term limits are so important. People stay in office for an eternity and begin to think our way or the highway. A forensic audit should be done every two years and randomly on anything political.
Wow I can hardly believe they don’t want an outsider checking them out. Voters need to ask for forensic audits of all forms of local government at least every two years. We need to be able to see what our officials are up to.

No Compensation You understand and agree that you will receive no compensation for the submission or use of your Submitted Content.
Indemnification You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Company, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of this Agreement or any third-party claims related to your Submitted Content.
Moral Rights and Publicity You waive any moral rights or rights of attribution in the Submitted Content to the extent permitted by law. Company may use your name, username, or likeness in connection with the Submitted Content if applicable.
Termination and Removal Company may, in its sole discretion, edit, refuse to post, or remove any Submitted Content at any time without notice. This Agreement survives any termination.
Governing Law This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Burnet County, Texas.
Entire Agreement This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements. Modifications must be in writing. By submitting content, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.
