Flooding and heavy rain could be in store for the Highland Lakes starting on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 19. The wet weather is expected to continue into the weekend and maybe even early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will likely sweep through Central Texas on Wednesday night, and it could bring multiple inches of rain to Burnet and Llano counties.

“Showers and thunderstorms will begin out west Wednesday night and move across the region Thursday exiting our eastern area Friday morning,” reads an NWS flood watch issued on Tuesday. “Some storms will produce locally heavy rain leading to flash flooding.”

The flood watch is in effect from midnight on Thursday until 6 a.m. on Friday.

Thunderstorms will likely roll in Wednesday night, producing heavy rainfall after midnight and wind gusts up to 25 mph. The heaviest rain is expected Thursday, with 90 percent chances and a predicted one to 6 inches of rain depending on the location.

The NWS forecast currently shows moderate to high chances of rain until at least Monday, Nov. 24.

It is also expected to cool off, with highs dropping into the 70s and 60s following the cold front.
