MayFest merges with FiestaJam for merriment and music

MayFest will run alongside FiestaJam on the first weekend of May in Marble Falls for several days of family fun and live music. The spring carnival is May 1-4, while the singer-songwriter-focused musical festival is May 1-3, both at Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J South.
General admission for both events is free, but you must pay for rides and games at the Mighty Thomas Carnival, which runs Thursday through Sunday. All-access armbands are $30 at the gate. Single-ride tickets are also available. VIP passes for FiestaJam, which include seating, special access to restrooms, and a drink service may be purchased online.
FiestaJam is providing the soundtrack for both events, with popular acts performing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, including headliner Asleep at the Wheel at 9 p.m. May 3. The festival, which normally takes place in October, added a spring edition this year. The event supports music education and includes a songwriting contest. See the full musical lineup here.
In addition to the live music and competition, FiestaJam hosts a singer-songwriter master class with Susan Gibson from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday and another with Bernie Nelson from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Lakeside Pavilion. Register online.
Gibson, a professional singer-songwriter best known for penning the 2009 County Music Awards single of the year “Wide Open Spaces” for The Chicks, spoke to KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune host Mac McClennahan about her appreciation for FiestaJam.
“It really feels like we’re there all for the same reason: We want to listen to some music and have a win-win where we do something for the community. And I know that’s the whole point of FiestaJam,” Gibson said. “You really get that sense with the people who show up. They’re there for a good time and a good cause.”
