Enjoy a free Thanksgiving Day dinner with turkey and all the trimmings at Vanderveer Church of Christ, 102 S. Vandeveer St. in Burnet. Meals will be served to the Highland Lakes community from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday.

All are welcome, said organizer Nancy Heuss of Epiphany Episcopal Church of Burnet.

“It’s a wonderful experience,” she said. “When you have a lady in line ask for six plates for her kids and she’s crying because she’s so thankful for the food, then you know why you and all the volunteers do this.”

Volunteers from across Burnet County will serve about 350 plates of food, some to take away, some delivered, and some to eat on site.

The food is donated by individuals, businesses, and churches. Hey Diddle Diddle Catering is providing the green bean casserole, First State Bank donated the fruit salad, and a group of churches is baking pies. Heuss and Gaye Boone are making fresh yeast rolls the day of the dinner.

Anyone needing a delivery within the Burnet city limits may contact Heuss at 512-755-4341 or 512-756-6768. You do not have to live in Burnet to come to the church for the meal, but deliveries are only within the city, Heuss said.
