The Spicewood Community Center‘s annual fish fry fundraiser is 6 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the old schoolhouse, 7901 CR 404. Proceeds will go toward maintaining and improving the historic center.

Plates of fried fish, coleslaw, hushpuppies, fries, beans, and dessert will be served with iced tea for $15. Children 6 years and younger accompanied by an adult eat for free. Food will be served while supplies last.

The community center was once the Spicewood Schoolhouse but now serves as an event venue for weddings, birthdays, family reunions, and more. It also hosts Spicewood 4-H, Spicewood Lions Club, and local property owners association meetings.

The schoolhouse was built in 1907 and served 121 students at peak enrollment. Its final graduating class was in 1949. The building was renovated in the 1970s and converted into a community center, according to board President Johnny Bindseil.
