FROM STAFF REPORTS
Deliver much-needed help to Highland Lakes food pantries on May 11 during the 27th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger drive, held the second Saturday of May each year.
It’s easy — yet effective: Just bag up non-perishable food items on Saturday and place them by your mailbox. In some areas, postal carriers will even place paper sacks in your mailbox before May 11.
All collected food will be delivered by carriers to the local post offices to be distributed to area food pantries to help Highland Lakes residents.
While most of us think of donating to food pantries during the holidays, summer is a high-need season as children are out of school. Many kids get free or reduced breakfasts and/or lunches at school, but, in the summer, they have less access to those programs.
The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is a response to community needs, and every little bit helps.
