John “Johnny” or “JD” Douglas Lucas, 72, of Buchanan Dam, Texas, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
Johnny was born in Llano on October 28, 1946, to John Wesley Lucas and Olga Dahl Lucas. Johnny attended Llano High School and served in the United States Army starting in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1971. He worked for Kraft Foods for over 25 years before retiring.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and planting his vegetable garden. He loved frying catfish with family and friends and throwing out trot lines in Lake Buchanan.
Johnny is survived by three sons and two daughters, Wesley Lucas and wife Holly of Llano, Shannon Lucas and wife Cheyenne of Bulverde, Donovan Lucas of California, Erica Lucas Hernandez and husband Ernesto of California, and Shellie Lucas of California. He is also survived by his brother, Pete Smith, and sister Barbara Reed, both of Llano. Johnny had seven beautiful grandchildren with one on the way as well as one great-grandbaby on the way.
Johnny was preceded in death by former wife, Polly Lucas; sister Janice Jones; and sister Betty Lou Scott.
Viewing will be at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Chapel, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 19. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the funeral home. There will be no graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Llano Special Opportunities Center, 206 E. Main St., Llano, TX 78643.
