FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — Johnny Caraway has resigned from his post as Marble Falls fire marshal, effective Sept. 12, city officials confirmed.Caraway, who had been with the city since 2007, also served as fire chief for part of his tenure with the municipality.

“We’re in the process of finding someone to replace him,” City Manager Mike Hodge said. “We’ll collect applications and probably put together an interview panel. The fire chief will sit on it.”

The former fire marshal announced his retirement on Sept. 9 and “at his request” worked his last day the following Monday, Hodge said.

“We’ve got some people within the fire department that can basically fill in in his absence,” he said. “The chief (Russell Sander) has indicated he has some resources, basically some retired fire marshals who can fill in.”

In March, city officials split Caraway’s dual role as both Marble Falls Fire Rescue fire chief and fire marshal after hiring Sander as the new chief.

Sander referred comments on Caraway’s departure to the city manager.

Hodge said, “Johnny did an outstanding job in the time he was with the city both as fire chief and fire marshal. We’re happy he’s decided to go into retirement and wish him the best.”

Attempts to reach Caraway were unsuccessful.

A time-frame on filling the fire marshal position is pending.
