SONORA — Miscues on special teams and the inability to score in the red zone contributed to the Llano High School football team’s 28-14 loss to Sonora on Sept. 2.

“It was a frustrating game,” head coach Craig Slaughter said. “Then their outside speed hurt us.”

The Broncos (2-0) took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter but earned a 21-7 advantage by halftime.

Part of that was the Yellowjackets (1-1) drove to the Sonora 10 and didn’t score. Then two bad snaps on punts allowed the Broncos to recover inside the Llano 10-yard line. That was enough to put the game out of reach.

Slaughter said the Jackets needed to play a near flawless game to get a win.

Sonora junior quarterback Kaden Cordell completed 12 of 23 passes for 178 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and had five rushes for 48 yards and a score. Junior running back Jarrett Jackson had nine rushes for 47 yards and a touchdown, and senior receiver Noah San Miguel had three receptions for 67 yards and a score, and sophomore receiver Walker Sine had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Llano junior running back Mason Greenwood rushed 26 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns. The Yellow Jackets had 12 passing yards on the night.

Senior defensive back Brent Greenwood had one interception.

Llano will have its home opener against Brady at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Llano Stadium, 400 Texas 71 East.
