Wanda Ione “Onkie” Davis Raymond, 89, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away June 24, 2016. She was born to Gilbert Mitchell and Cleoria Fronia (Smith) Davis on Sept. 23, 1926, in Robert Lee, Texas.
Onkie graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1943 and was class salutatorian. She received a scholarship to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. Onkie began her working career in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston as a civil service employee. She moved to San Angelo and began work at Good Fellow Air Force Base. After moving to Waco, she began working for the Veterans Administration and retired from the VA in Houston in 1989.
Onkie married Edward E. Pierce in 1948. She and Edward had two sons. She later married Jack Raymond on Aug. 8, 1962, and they had a daughter and a son. Jack and Onkie shared over 50 years of marriage together.
She was a hardworking professional woman who loved her children and grandchildren. Her greatest pleasures were cooking, singing, listening to music and enjoying time with her family.
Onkie is survived by her sons, Doug Pierce and wife Gale and Joe Pierce and wife Linda, all of Kingsland, and Mitch Raymond and wife Missy of Lantana; daughter, Fronia Scharck and husband Michael of Houston; six grandchildren, Trevor Pierce, Abi Pierce, Michael Eastep, Joseph Eastep, Gracie Raymond and Max Raymond; three great-grandchildren, J.D. Pierce, Eli Eastep and Camden Eastep; and brother, Add Davis and wife Barbara.
Onkie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Raymond; father, Mitchell Davis; mother, Fronia Davis; and sister, Maureen Vosburg.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. June 27 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A graveside service is 11 a.m. June 28 at Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee.
