Leon William Seidl Sr., 90, passed away March 20, 2016, due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Visitation is 10-11:30 a.m. March 28 followed by a funeral Mass at noon at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1927 Trinity Drive in Kingsland. Interment will be in Kingsland Cemetery.

Leon was born in Houston and was one of six children of the late Otto and Freida Menn Seidl. He married Sophenia Loretta Hagerty on June 11, 1947. She preceded him in death.

His loving family includes, Sherry Seidl Clay and husband Don, Debbie Seidl Redditt and husband Stephen (who preceded him in death), Susie Redditt, Becky Anton and husband Steven, Diane Seidl Isam, Bill Seidl and wife Jean, Janet Seidl Carney and husband Lonnie, and daughter, Nancy Seidl Brewer, who preceded Leon in death.

Leon enjoyed a long and fulfilling life. He started working at Rein Printing Co. in the bindery department when he was 17. He retired in 1986 from The Seidl’s Bindery Inc., which he founded in October 1975. He moved to Kingsland in 1986 with his wife, Loretta. When diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he moved to Round Rock and lived with Sherry, Don, Jennifer and Jessica Clay, who became his caregivers.

We will always remember his laughter, his songs and his dedication to his family.

Leon was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years and was a Grand Knight and district deputy. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years. He coordinated the Kingsland Area Salvation Army. He helped the Llano County EMS for four years at their July 4 fish fry. As a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, he served as lector, Eucharistic minister, sacristan and server. He was a charter member and first president of the Men’s Club. He received the Lenten Gentium award from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Leon was a member of both the Austin and national associations of lithographers and a member of the Binding Industries of America, Printing Industries of America, Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast and the Houston Litho Club.

He was a Kingsland Lions Club member for 17 years. During his term as president, he had 26 new members join in one year, a club record. He was five-time chairman or co-chairman of the Lions golf tournaments.

He received the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award and Distinguished Service Award as a member and director of the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce.

He served two three-year terms as a member, director and president of the Kingsland Community Center.

He was a member and director of the Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers for 17 years and served as chairman and vice chairman.

He was also a director of the Kingsland Water Supply Corp. and a member and director of the Highlands Lake Group, which protects the waters of the Colorado River, Buchanan Dam, Lake Travis and Lake Austin.
