Hazel Ann Hamlin was born at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California, on Dec. 14, 1940, to Sam and Ann Martindale. She grew up in Spring Valley, California, a suburb of San Diego.

On her first day of the ninth grade, she met the love of her life, Larry Hamlin. She and Larry graduated high school together in June 1958 and were married in September the same year. Their marriage produced three daughters: Lori, Dana and Jill.

For 21 years, Hazel enjoyed her role as mother and housewife while Larry worked for Woolworth Co.  In 1979, in Beaumont, Texas, they purchased Al Cook Nursery and established Hamlin Nursery and Co. They worked jointly in this business for 23 years, retiring in 2002.

In 2009, they built their lake home on Beaver Island on Lake LBJ.

Hazel, with Larry always by her side, courageously fought the disease ALS for three years. She passed away Nov. 15, 2015.

In addition to Larry, Hazel is survived by her three daughters; four granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; brothers Gary Martindale, Sam Martindale and Paul Martindale; and sister Cheryl Martindale. She is also survived by Larry’s siblings, Donald Hamlin and Evelyn Lee.
