BRIGGS — A Copperas Cove man died after a two-vehicle collision on a rural road in northern Burnet County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened just before noon Sept. 3 on FM 2657 about a mile and a half north of Briggs, DPS reported.

A 1985 Volvo traveling northeast left the roadway, swerved back into traffic traveling the opposite direction and collided with a 2014 Mazda.

Stevan Peyton, 59, of Copperas Cove, the Volvo driver, was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Burnet County Justice of the Peace Lisa Whitehead.

He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the DPS report.

The driver of the Mazda was 43-year-old Gregory Wolf of Salado. Wolf was not transported to the hospital.

Neither vehicle carried passengers.
