DALLAS — Marble Falls High School incoming senior lineman Ryan Becker committed to play for Southern Methodist University on July 26.

“It felt like home,” he said.

Becker had visited SMU during the spring and kept in contact with new head coach Chad Morris during the past several months.

Becker also traveled to Lubbock to visit with Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech University, Fort Worth to camp at Texas Christian University, College Station to attend the Texas A&M University football camp, and Austin to attend the University of Texas football camp.

But in the end, Becker picked SMU. The entire Becker family felt comfortable with coach Morris from the moment they met him — and that was the difference.

Ryan Becker will play tight end for the SMU Mustangs.

In addition to not having to change mascots, Becker won’t be unfamiliar with the playbook.

Marble Falls High School head coach Matt Green utilizes the same offense as SMU. Green was Morris’ offensive coordinator at Lake Travis when the Cavaliers won Class 4A state championships in 2008 and 2009.

Becker will be used as an offensive lineman and tight end at times during his final high school season.
