TOW— After several days of searching, a volunteer fire crew on July 25 found what authorities believe is the body of a 50-year-old man who went missing in the middle of the night during an outing with friends at a Lower Colorado River Authority park, according to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine if the body found is Dennis Dean Holtzclaw, who was last seen about 12:30 a.m. July 18 at Cedar Point Park on Lake Buchanan in the Tow area.

The body was “recovered by Buchanan Dam (Volunteer Fire Department) on Lake Buchanan near Canyon of the Eagles,” an LCSO news release stated.

According to investigators, “Mr. Holtzclaw was intoxicated at the time he went missing.”

At the time of his disappearance, the Department of Public Safety, the LCSO, the LCRA and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department assisted in a search of the surrounding area by land, air and water.

The cause of the man’s death is pending the outcome of the autopsy.
